They say when you look good, you feel good but that old adage works the other way around too. You’ll find that when you clear out your mind and body, you’re usually glowing on the outside as well. Here are 4 ways that you can detox your body this spring and look divine doing it:

Drink Your Goodness

Ditch the alcohol and processed sugar, and pump your body full of fruit, veggies and fibre instead. Here’s our favorite recipe for a detox smoothie that will jumpstart a pure life:

A variety of frozen berries, including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries.

  • 2 bananas
  • ½ cup frozen berries
  • 2T hemp protein powder
  • 1 handful of spinach
  • 1 peeled kiwi
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 1 T flax seed oil

Choose all organic ingredients if available. Combine in the blender using both blend and liquefy functions. Enjoy!

If you liked this berry smoothie, you'll also love our smoothie recipe packed with beets, ginger and spinach.

Detox Your Brain

Getting forty winks isn’t just essential as beauty sleep, research shows that sleep actually removes waste products from the brain. A recent study in 2012 discovered a previously unrecognized system, now called the “glymphatic system,” which actually drains toxins from the brain while you snooze. Make sure you hit the pillow for your full eight hours and wake up to a refreshed brain which has been literally detoxified.

Pollution, dirt and oil clog our pores daily so it’s essential to remove these layers of impurities from our complexion. Detoxification ingredients, like thermal mud, pull oil and dirt out of the skin and leave a pure look to the skin’s surface. Here are two treatments that we recommend for purification:

Acne Advanced Clarifying Masque: Need a truly deep clean? This is the treatment that absorbs impurities and lifts them straight out of your skin. Thanks to three types of purifying clay, this mask also reduces the appearance of shine on the skin.

Sweat It Out

Although modern science is still undecided about the benefits of detoxification through sweating, the process has been used throughout history and around the world in Scandinavian saunas, Turkish baths and Indigenous sweat lodges as well as other cultures. In addition, the Journal of Environmental and Public Health noted: “Sweat-inducing sauna use might provide a therapeutic method to increase elimination of toxic trace metals.” That’s enough encouragement for us to experiment in detoxing via sweat (especially if said experiment involves relaxing in a steam bath).
